The 2016 season accomplished two major goals.

The first of these was the drone photography of the site, intended to produce a color image to overlay onto the 3D data gathered via the terrestrial laser scanner. Additionally, imagery of the landscape surrounding the settlement was collected, expanding the 3D model.

In April news of sensational findings in Phaleron Delta, where a new opera house and a national library are being constructed by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, hit newspapers and TV channels both in Greece and abroad. Mass graves containing the bodies of more than 80 executed, mostly young males were found, and there is some likelihood that the victims are those who supported the coup attempt of Cylon in the 630s BC.

During nine intensive days in June, the Institute welcomed four teachers of classical languages. As part of a program sponsored by the Association of Swedish Classicists and the Institute we visited the sites of Athens and made longer excursions to  Delphi, Kalaureia in the Saronic Gulf and various landmarks in the Argolid. We thank the participants Lena Tegström, Kent Fredholm, Carina Nylén and Nicole de Jong, as well as the Association of Classicist for a stimulating exchange.

–  16th Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival on Saturday, May 28, at 23.00 hours and
  14th Preveza Jazz Festival on Sunday, May 29

The band consists of Naoko Sakata (piano), Alfred Lorinius (bass) and Johan Birgenius (drums).
