A Northern Light in Southern Struggles: Swedish Solidarity Towards Greece
Sweden and Greece are bound by a history of empathy, civic engagement, and shared democratic values. Join distinguished panelists Giorgos Papandreou, Kajsa Ekis Ekman and Marie Mauzy, moderated by prominent journalist Alexandra Pascalidou, as they trace this history and how solidarity can evolve in the face of new geopolitical and economic challenges. Welcome to an evening of reflection and celebration of how a northern nation extended a hand of solidarity to Greece during some of its most critical 20th-century struggles. The discussions will reach from the presence of the Swedish Red Cross during WW2 to Sweden’s response to the Greek debt crisis, via the 1960s solidarity movements and Swedish reactions to the Greek military dictatorship.
