Training programme in field archaeology on Poros.

Excavations at the Sanctuary of Poseidon at Kalaureia on Poros were recommenced in June 2015 under the direction of Arto Penttinen.

The campaign was one part of a training programme in field archaeology, which the Swedish Institute at Athens organized in co-operation with the Department of Historical Studies at Gothenburg University. During the campaign four trenches were excavated in a hitherto unexplored part of the site that once belonged to the ancient city of Kalaureia.

The work was supervised by the outgoing Assistant Director of the Institute, Monica Nilsson together with Therese Paulson, a PhD candidate at the Department of Archaeology and Ancient History at Stockholm University.

A full report on the results of the excavations will follow.
