Το Σουηδικό Ινστιτούτο Αθηνών δημοσιεύει τα αποτελέσματα των αρχαιολογικών ερευνών και συνεδρίων που διοργανώνονται από το Ινστιτούτο στη μονογραφική σειρά Skrifter utgivna av Svenska Institutet i Athen. Ωστόσο, στη μονογραφική σειρά μπορούν να συμπεριληφθούν και άλλες πρωτότυπες έρευνες των κλάδων της κλασικής αρχαιολογίας, της αρχαίας ιστορίας, της τέχνης, της αρχιτεκτονικής καθώς και της φιλολογίας. Το επιστημονικό περιοδικό Opuscula εκδίδεται ετησίως από κοινού από το Σουηδικό Ινστιτούτο Αθηνών και το Σουηδικό Ινστιτούτο της Ρώμης. Στο Opuscula δημοσιεύονται τα αποτελέσματα του σουηδικού αρχαιολογικού έργου στη Μεσόγειο, αλλά το περιοδικό φιλοξενεί επίσης άρθρα που σχετίζονται με όλες τις πτυχές των αρχαίων μεσογειακών πολιτισμών (προϊστορία έως την ύστερη αρχαιότητα, συμπερ. της φιλολογίας) από τη διεθνή ερευνητική κοινότητα. Όλα τα άρθρα αξιολογούνται από ομότιμους και όσα γίνονται αποδεκτά διατίθενται με ανοικτή πρόσβαση έξι μήνες μετά τη δημοσίευση. Τη διαδικασία δημοσίευσης, η οποία διεξάγεται σύμφωνα με τα υψηλότερα πρότυπα επιμέλειας και δημοσίευσης, διαχειρίζεται η συντακτική επιτροπή των Σουηδικών Ινστιτούτων Αθηνών και Ρώμης (www.ecsi.se).

Despite the prevalent picture of the water supply in the ancient world as being dominated by fountains and aqueducts, the large number of excavated wells and cisterns show that these were the primary water sources for most individuals. Yet, little research has been done on their construction, function and use. This prompted the organization of the workshop Going against the flow. Wells, cisterns and water in ancient Greece, held at the Swedish Institute at Athens on 28–29 September 2017, and subsequent publication of the contributions in this volume.

First issued in 2008 (no. 1), Opuscula replaces the annuals Opuscula Atheniensia and Opuscula Romana published by the Swedish Institute at Athens and the Swedish Institute in Rome respectively.

A brief four-week excavation campaign in 1997 at the temple on top of the mountain of Agios Elias at Asea produced abundant archaeological material which partly is presented in this study, along with a stratigraphic report of part of the excavated area. The pottery, miniature vessels, miscellaneous terracotta finds, roof tiles, faunal and human bones, glass, coins, sculpture and miscellaneous stone objects are included in the present work.

In a time when we cannot meet face to face, we want to celebrate fruitful meetings of the past. Therefore we offer our conference proceeding for only 199 SEK / 19 € each.
