Aegeus and the Swedish Institute at Athens invite you to a lecture by Kerasia Douni (Ephorate of Antiquities of Eastern Attica) & Panagiota Michailidi (Ephorate of Antiquities of Eastern Attica):

The Early Bronze Age settlement at Koropi: excavating an early urban center at Mesogeia, Attica (lecture in Greek)

The lecture takes place on Friday February 28, 2020, at 19.00h, at the Swedish Institute at Athens, Mitseon 9, Athens.

The Early Bronze Age settlement at Koropi is, to date, the largest settlement in Attica. Since the 80’s, the rescue excavations of the B’ Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities and subsequently the Ephorate of Antiquities of East Attica, have revealed extensive architectural remains and numerous findings. Recent excavations that were carried out during public and private works (2013-2020), confirmed the extent of the settlement and provided new data on its wider urban organization, household activities (storage, food preparation etc.), crafts such as metallurgy and production of stone tools and trade. These data, combined with the systematic study of pottery and lithics, revealed the wide range of activities of the inhabitants who take active part in the exchange network that characterizes the Aegean during that period and are indisputable evidence of a technologically and economically advanced society.
