The Society of the Friends of the Swedish Institute at Athens was founded in 1976. The Society actively supports the work of the Institute and promotes cultural and scholarly exchange between Greece and Sweden. It gives scholarships to students and scholars undertaking research in Greece and annually presents an award to a person or organization that has increased Sweden’s understanding of Greek culture and its importance for our own culture or has promoted the cultural exchange between Sweden and Greece. The Society and its local branches regularly arrange public events in several cities in Sweden, highlighting the activities of the Institute and introducing aspects of Greek culture to a Swedish audience.
