Lecture by Dr. Ingela Nilsson, Assοciate Professor at the Uppsala University on

"Court ceremonial, literary letters: a twelfth-century poet and his rhetorical persona"

The lecture will focus on some poems attributed to Theodore Prodromos
(c. 1100-1170), popular and prolific poet at the Komnenian court in
Constantinople. Does he really speak of himself in these poems, or is he
just playing around with his audience, exploiting a well-known theme
and thus creating a literary persona? The question will be considered in
light of Gustav Karlsson's ideas on ceremonial rhetoric in Byzantine
espistolography.

At the Swedish Institute, Mitseon 9, Makrkyianni.
