Educational programs

The institute’s policy is that research and education must be intimately connected. Thus the institute every year offers five scholarships to fourth-semester students of Classical Archaeology at the Swedish universities (Göteborg, Lund, Stockholm and Uppsala) to participate in an archaeological program at the institute in Athens. The objective is to study every aspect of ancient Greek society in its context. The program comprises ten weeks of lectures at archaeological sites and in museums. Approximately half of the time is spent traveling in the Peloponnese, Crete and central Greece. Each year an alternative region is added like Aetolia and Epiros or Macedonia.

The institute also organizes refresher courses for high school teachers of subjects in any way associated with ancient Greek culture. For many years the focus has been on Classics teachers in high schools. Teachers are an important target group in order to further the general interest in and knowledge of ancient Greek culture.
